Sankar Ghoshal
A veteran thespian of the east coast stage, Sankar Ghoshal started his life in theater at a very early age playing the character of "Amol" in Tagore's "Dakghar" just like many Bengali kids do in Bengal. However, this association with theater continued through his high school and junior college days with plays like "Rather Rashi", "Abol Tabol", "Ali Baba" and others. During this period, Sankar also demonstrated his skills as a playwright and director with his plays, "Smriti" and "Tumi Akasher Tara."
During his days at the Jadavpur Engineering college, Sankar acted in several plays like "Pagla Ghora", "Malancha", "Chalachitta Chanchari", "Adab" and directed plays like "Panchu O Mashi" and "Malater Rang Muhurtha" besides others.
After immigrating to the USA, Sankar continued his stage performances, both as an actor and a director. Some of his plays, which are still remembered by the audiences of New York and New Jersey include, "Buro Shaliker Ghare Roa", "Baki Itihash", "Sajano Bagan", " Pagla Ghora", "Malancha", "Satyee Bhuter Galpo", "Narak Guljar", " Raj Rakto", "Champa, Prithibi, Ishwar", "Ballabh Purer Rup Katha", "Dan Sagar" and several others.
Sankar has always tried to perfect his art through continuous self learning and arduous practice. He received one-on-one acting training with Jerome Waldman, artistic director of a NYC Cable Network in 1983-84 at Jerome Waldman Studio, NYC, and has also completed a six months program in improv, acting, and Direction at the Sonia Moor Studio in Manhattan, New York.
Sankar plays the role of "Subimal", the protagonist of the play, The Redemption.
Mayuresh Khare
Mayuresh Khare, a young and spirited actor started his stage journey with amateur regional Marathi theatre from his childhood. Growing up in a culturally rich city of Pune, India, Mayuresh participated in several plays as a child actor during his school days. Mayuresh worked hard to keep himself closely associated with theatre activities through his college days as well while balancing his time with participation in several sports meets at national and international levels and at the same time maintained an outstanding academic record. His performances in inter-collegiate and inter-university drama competitions were highly acclaimed. Mayuresh won the “best actor” award at all India inter-university cultural festival held at Mumbai for his lead role in marathi play “olakh”. He also played lead roles in many other amateur one-act plays, notably “The Workshop” and “Ek Zankar Japatana”.
“The Redemption” is Mayuresh’s first play in USA. He plays the role of ‘Bhaskar’. Now a civil engineer by profession, Mayuresh considers this as an excellent opportunity to rejuvenate his passion for theatre once again.
Keka Sirkar
Keka Sirkar, a well-known name in and around New York, New Jersey stages, started her acting career when she was twelve. Since she arrived in USA, she has portrayed major characterss in numerous plays some of which include, "Pakhi","Rat Jurey","Jodi Ar Ekbar","Tulkalam","ShahJahan","Balidan"etc. She has also played the main female role in the feature film "Symphony". Keka plays the role of Chandrima in "The Redemption".
Amitav Roy
Amitav, a bright young actor, made his debut stage performance with “KaalSuddhi” the Bengali version of the play, “The Redemption”. A second generation Indian American, Amitav has been associated with performing arts from his childhood days. Brought up in New York and New Jersey in a musical family (his father being the illustrious Jazz tabla player, Badal Roy), Amitav developed a keen sense of aesthetics in performing arts and possesses the sensitivity to understand a complex character and bring it to life on stage. His performance in KaalSuddhi was widely acclaimed. Surely, “The Redemption” will not be his last production.
Amitav is a gadget aficionado and loves Indian classical music. In “The Redemption” Amitav plays the role of Somu (Somshubhra), the son of the protagonist Subimal.
Indranil Mukherjee
Indranil Mukherjee, a young and talented actor has already made a major impact on the New Jersey, New York stage with his spirited and lively performances. Indranil's journey into the theater world started quite early in Kolkata, where his performances in "Chokhe Angul Dada", "Gana Debota", "Ekti Abastab Galpo", "Ankush" and others were highly praised by the discerning audience and critics of the theater city. In USA, Indranil has performed in a variety of roles in several plays in the tri-state (NY-NJ-CT) area some of which include, "Jibon Ranga", "Kak Charitra", "Solution X", "Nater Guru" etc. His performance in Tagore's "Chira Kumar Sabha" (directed by the famous director of Kolkata, Sri. Ashok Mukhopadyay) in the role of "Srish" was highly appreciated by the New Jersey audience.
Indranil has also directed several plays including plays like "Shikari", "Jara Brishtite Bhijechhilo" and "Alibaba : The Musical". Indranil is also a talented writer and poet and had also been an editor of a bengali magazine 'tri-masik patrika' in Kolkata.
Indranil played the role of Subimal in the play "KaalSuddhi', the Bengali version of "The Redemption".
PInaki Dutta
Pinaki's association with drama, which later grew into his passion and love, started with the play "Daakghar" (The Post Office) by Rabindranath Tagore, where he played the central character 'Amol'.
Since that day, Pinaki had performed in numerous plays in India, US and Canada. The most noted of his performaces was in the role of 'Matla' in "Chaak Bhanga Modhu" - a famous play by Manoj Mitra, in which he acted under the direction of eminent theater personality Shri Bibhash Chakroborty from Kolkata. "Prostab", "Tulkaalam", "Honeymoon", "Shantir Pothe", "Chatujje Barujje", performed in different parts of the US, also had Pinaki in the lead role. He got critical acclamation for his potrayal of 'Manohor' in the play "Ballabhpurer Rupkatha". He worked with the "Nandikaar" theater group of Kolkata ( in "Gotroheen" - a famous play directed by Shri Rudra Prasad Sengupta) and "Sayak" also from Kolkata. He was also involved in various aspects(including acting) of the successfull Off-Broadway production "Nuraldiner Sarajibon". "Adaab", "Biponno Bishmoy", "Tetul Gaachh", "Nobodurbadoloshyam" and "Phera" were few of the other notable performances. He also directed plays like "Tulkalaam" and "Honeymoon" in New Jersey.
Pinaki played the character Bhaskar in "KaalSuddhi", the Bengali version of "The Redemption".
Sudipta Bhawmik : The Playwright and Director
Sudipta Bhawmik, a well-known actor, director and playwright has been performing in the tri-state area stages since 1989. Before coming to USA, Sudipta has acted in and directed several plays and has won several awards at different festivals around the country. He also was a student at the “Panchamved Charyashram” a theater school founded by Saoli Mitra and had the privilege of training under the stalwarts like Sombhu Mitra, Tripti Mitra, Saoli Mitra, Mohit Chattopadhya and others. He also received training from the famous playwright and director Badal Sircar at many of his workshops. Some of Sudipta’s notable acting performances include plays like, “Sabdo Moho Bandhaney”, “Chand Boniker Pala”, “Kenaram Becharam”, “Anjan Alone”, “Captain Hurrah”, “Komolakanter Daptar”, "ShahJahan", "Pratham Alo", "ChiraKumar Sabha" and many others. Sudipta has also acted in Mira Nair's upcoming film, "The Namesake", based on Jumpa Lahiri's best selling novel.
His notable directorial ventures include “Sadgati”, “Jodi Ar Ekbar”, “Ebong Indrajit”, “Lathi”, “Ferari Fouz” , “Kobir Lorai”, "Phera", "KaalSuddhi" etc. In Tagore's "Chirakumar Sabha", Sudipta served as the assistant director to Ashok Mukhopadhyay (the famous director from Kolkata) and helped crystalize the production before his arrival.
Sudipta has also written several plays, both in Bengali and English. Some of his plays include, "Moner Bone", "Phera/The Return", "KaalSuddhi/The Redepmtion" and "Baanaprastha".
